Summer is almost here, and I can’t wait! Being cooped up in the house all day in quarantine has me craving some warm weather and sunshine. Honestly, I think most of the world can benefit from a little summer after the last two months. 2020 really threw us for a loop! I’ve been lucky to have the ability to work from home, a luxury so many people don’t have, so I’m grateful to have that privilege.

With the little bit of extra time on my hands, I’ve been working hard on my blog and “investing” in content creation. Okay, so that’s my lame attempt at justifying my shopping habit, but can you blame me? There’s nothing to do and so many sales! I’m still waiting on a few more swimsuits to come in the mail, so when they do, I’ll post a full try-on and link it here. With that, check out some of the top swimwear trends for summer 2020!

Swimwear Trends 2020

Animal Print

Embrace your wild side with animal print swimwear this season. Blame Tiger King if you want, but animal print is in and here to stay. Leopard print seemed to rule the scene when it came to wearable animal print for a while, but I’ve noticed an uptick in snakeskin, cheetah, and of course, tiger prints this year too. It seems like every retailer is jumping on the animal print bandwagon and adding it to all their swimwear designs.

Cami

Oh the 90’s. The decade of square neck everything and flat platform shoes has returned and I’m so here for it! One of the hottest swimwear trends this season is the cami-style top which mimics the look of a camisole with its thin straps and square neckline. Cami-style swimwear is a great alternative to the ever-popular bandeau trend because it provides just a bit of extra insurance to prevent a possibly embarrassing fashion mishap at the beach! I personally wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the cami-style trend because I have broader shoulders and an athletic build, but after trying it, I think this cut does a great job at flattering a variety of body types!

Tie Dye

Tie dye is everywhere including swimwear! Bright colors and carefree patterns practically scream summer-time, so it’s no surprise that one of the biggest swimwear trends this year is tie dye. I’ve personally always loved tie dye patterns, but I’m glad to see them upgraded with a monochromatic vibe for a more mature look compared to the rainbow tie dye of my adolescent summer camp days. When it comes to tie dye in swimwear this season, I’ve gravitated more toward monochromatic designs that focus either on a single color or color family.

One-Piece Swimwear

I haven’t worn a one-piece swimsuit since I was 10, but it’s safe to say that they’ve gotten a major upgrade in the last 16 years. I’m loving the one-piece swimsuits that look like a two-piece from the front, but connect in the back or on the side. It’s super unique and a different take on one-piece swimwear.

Underwire

The underwire trend came around a few years ago and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. In fact, this year it’s gotten an upgrade in the form of a v detail in the center that adds just the right amount of lift. I’m not the biggest fan of this style, but I think the sheer exposure is starting to break me down! We’ll just have to see when I get my packages!

Knotted

Knot details are popping up everywhere in swimwear this year, and I love the casual vibe it adds. From knotted bandeaus to tied up crop tops, there are so many fun options to choose from. No matter your style, a knot detail is sure to add some interest to an otherwise bland swimsuit.

High Cut

Want legs for days? Get yourself a high cut bikini! The trend of the 80’s is back and so perfect for my fellow shorties. Ever since I discovered the magic of high-cut bikinis, I rarely wear any other kind. High cut bikinis are usually worn closer to the waist than on the hips like a normal bikini bottom, so it gives the illusion of longer legs and fuller hips. Keep in mind that they’re usually not full coverage in the back and some styles tend to be more cheeky than others. I personally don’t mind, but I know everyone has their preferences.

There you have it! The top swimwear trends of Summer 2020. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of my apartment and itching for warmer weather so I can go to the beach and enjoy the fresh air, socially distant of course! Although New York City beaches will remain closed for the foreseeable future, New York State beaches will be opening up for the season on Memorial Day weekend. Truth be told, I’ll probably wait a month or so before heading to the beach to try to avoid large crowds, but I’ll definitely be putting my swimsuits to good use!

Which swimwear trend are you most excited to try out this year? I’m super excited for my first one piece swimsuit in over 10 years! Want more swimsuit inspo? Check out my Zaful Bikini Haul from last year. All except one set is still available!
